La Poste Museum
Opened in 1946, the La Poste Museum was then located in the former Hôtel de Choiseul-Praslin, dating of beginning of the XVIII century in the 6th district in Paris.
In 1973 this place became too cramped, the museum was installed at 34 boulevard de Vaugirard at the heart of the Montparnasse district in the actual building, built to this effect.
This museum is entirely dedicated to the ways in which mail formerly achieved its destination with the help of different means of transportation (horses, cars, trains, airplanes), to go always faster and further.
A museum open to all ages and all publics
In this place you will find the history of stamps and the way they were made, as well as several collections: ancient post boxes, uniforms of post men, models of post trunks, collector stamps, artist works. All these pieces of collection form a rare and color-rich whole.
In 15 rooms spread in 5 floors, the Museum of La Poste presents its permanent collections and organizes temporary exhibitions. Together with these events, several cultural and pedagogical activities are proposed; workshops for children and for adults, conferences, animations… the museum has also a documentation center and a library where there are searchers from all around the world.
