Atlantic Garden next to the Montparnasse Tower

Not far from the Hotel du Parc, you have also a green space. The architecture of this garden built in 1994, reminds of the Ocean, destination of most of the trains that depart from the Montparnasse TGV station, which is just next to it.

You will find theme spaces, sport areas and playground for children. And, if you brought your tennis racket, 5 tennis courts await you.

A great garden

Build on a cement rectangle sustained by twelve arches; it styles the Montparnasse station since 1994.

Suspended at 18 meters over the level of the SNCF rails, the Atlantic garden displays itself over three and a half hectares between the Montparnasse and Pasteur stations. At the edge of the XIV and XV districts the garden is placed around a great square garden free of access. The central fountain has the necessary instruments to measure the strength and orientation of the wind, to register rain, to indicate temperature and atmospheric pressure.

If squared buildings surround the space, great masts, footbridges, sport and relaxation areas, undulating lines, everything evokes here a great garden.

The noblest minerals (Kapur wood, Macauba blue marble, granite Perros-Guirec…) live closely one another with plants original from several continents.

To take a walk

The garden is inspired in regular geometry and emerged from French-style gardens, at the center and to the West, and from the accidental relief of English parks with bushy vegetation, to the East. Children will find a fantastic area to play surrounded by the ocean theme. To the west of the garden, tennis courts (dependant of a sport club), a work out area and two table tennis tables represent the sun and energy, while the East represents the shadow and dreams.

Most of the pines are perennial, so they are always green, and give the garden a welcoming aspect. The plants are white, mauve and blue and remind the blue color of the ocean. The grass in the center is surrounded by two lines of trees, original from countries of both sides of the Atlantic.

In the center, the fountain of the island of the Hesperides, which is dedicated to the sky, displays an immense thermometer, a rain gauge, weather vane and a wind speed measurer. The undulation of the sun suggests the waves of the ocean. A great mirror receives the sunrays and lightens the basin of Reflections, which is in shadow most of the time.
