Hôtel du Parc recommends that you watch an entertaining performance at Théâtre de la Gaité Montparnasse. Situated only a few minutes walk from the hotel, this famous Parisian theatre seats 400 and was opened in 1868.

The building was listed as a Monument Historique 18 years ago and has seen its fair share of famous names perform here: Fanny Ardant, Pierre Arditi, Francis Huster and André Dussolier.

There are currently two shows. The first is called Une semaine… pas plus, and is an entertaining play about a chaotic ménage à trois. The second L’Atelier de Pierre Palmade, was created by a comedian to give two talented actors, chosen during auditions, the chance to perform their own sketches.

These shows are on until July 1st and June 18th respectively. Come for a hilarious and memorable experience and escape these difficult times.

The Grand Palais Pays Homage to Helmut Newton and His Work – Hotel du Parc, Paris

The famous photographer has a fantastic exhibition devoted to him at the Grand Palais, in Paris, until June 17th. Visitors can view over 200 pictures from the artist and a film excerpt by his wife entitled Helmut by June.

First exhibition devoted to Helmut Newton in France

This is the first exhibition devoted to Helmut Newton in France to be held since his death in 2004. It retraces the brilliant photographer’s career with a selection of original works. Newton was known for his photos of fashion and nude women as well as the shocking nature of his snapshots.

June, his wife of 60 years designed the retrospective which is punctuated by quotes from the photographer. The Grand Palais’ exhibition reflects the freedom that his work was known for as well as his resolutely modern view of women and their bodies.

Paris is preparing to welcome the best tennis players on the planet for the 82nd French tournament from May 22nd to June 10th at the Roland Garros.

Roland Garros in Paris, second round of the Grand Slam

It’s the second round of the Grand Slam following the Australian Open which Novak Djokovic, the current world number 1, won back in January. The Serbian tennis player has never won the final in Paris and will be hell-bent on stopping Rafael Nadal from winning his 7th title.

The ladies’ matches should be just as exciting. Fans are expecting much from Marion Bartoli, ranked 7th in the WTA and the best French player at the moment.

Did you know? The longest match in the history of Roland Garros saw 2 French players fight it out: Fabrice Santoro and Arnaud Clément played for 6 hours and 33 minutes in 2004!

Seen all together for the first time, the pairs and variations on exhibit in Paris provide an innovative approach to Matisse’s work with a focus on the aspect of repetition.

The French painter who was at the forefront of the Fauvist movement reinterpreted his own work on a regular basis, producing several paintings based on the same inspiration, but with a distinct approach.

Among the works on display for the occasion, visitors can compare la Liseuse sur fond noir and les Marguerites, or le Rêve and la Blouse Romaine. In all, the collection consists of 60 paintings and some thirty drawings for a fascinating exhibition that is both original and educational !

The Catacombs of Paris: an immense underground labyrinth – Hôtel du Parc

The origins of the Catacombs of Paris date back to the end of the 18^th century when, for health reasons, the capital’s cemeteries were gradually evacuated. The Tombe-Issoire quarries were transformed into an immense municipal ossuary, where the remains of almost 6 million Parisians now lie.

A 2 kilometre-long guided tour under Paris !

Transferred between 1786 and the middle of the 19^th century, the remains were conveyed in wagons covered by a black veil. A procession of priests always accompanied the convoy, organised at nightfall. A real tangle of dark and maze-like galleries, the site is today accessible to visitors, who travel 20 m underground for a 2 kilometre-long guided tour.

Did you know? The name Catacombs comes from the Catacombs of Rome, which are in fact an ancient cemetery lying not far from the Via Appia (Appian Way).
